September Re-cap

Yes I am a blogging slacker! Though I am glad for those who blog regularly because I enjoy reading blogs every day. Like my sister-in-law Liz. She's hilarious - she did the Winston Churchill-Baxter comparison and now an old Glisson photo commentary. Very, very funny! Anyway, thanks for everyone who blogs regularly because I enjoy reading your updates. I was looking through my photos and decided I wanted to post some photos and stories from September and then I'll catch up with October, too. For now...here's September:
Jasper loving on his little brother. Ohhh, poor Baxter. He definitely just rolls with the punches. Almost everyday Jasper asks, "Can I sit on the sofa and hold him?" When he's done he says, "You can hold him now." That's a sweet way of warning me that he's about to jump off the couch. Notice the dirt on Jasper's legs, face, etc. He loves to play outside and get dirty. The photos below....he was playing outside on his own and I looked out my bathroom window (only window on that side of the house) to check on him in the sandbox. But he wasn't in the sandbox, he was back in the woods a little ways, which is fine. I went outside to check on him and asked him what he was doing. He said, "Hiking." Pretty good choice of hiking sticks, I might add.
One reason he gets so muddy is from our side yard. We got it cleared in May, graded in September, and planted some rye in October. It is looking good (pics in next post!). Of course, Jasper loves playing in the 'new yard' which has stayed muddy with the massive amounts of rain.
Jasper told me he drew earmuffs - I was impressed.
Here's the chunky boy. Darrell's family are UT fans. I put this outfit on Baxter for them and Darrell's mom said, look it's Phil Fulmer! ha! Fulmer is the former, overweight UT head coach for those of you who aren't in love with SEC football like me.
I organized a trip to the local fire station for my moms club. This is just about the only picture I have and Jasper is striking such a weird catwalk pose...but we had fun and Jasper re-enacts the fire station tour daily. Also, this is Baxter's typical mode of transportation. We changed him to the convertible car seat in mid-September as we knew he was probably at least 20 lbs. Anyway, what do you do with a little one that doesn't fit in the infant carrier but can't sit up on his own? Interesting dilemma. I've opted for the cheap umbrella stroller which is working fine. I just don't take him to the store with me because 1: he can't sit in a shopping cart, 2: I can't steer this cheap stroller with one hand and 3: there are too many germs and I'd rather go to the store by myself anyway. But it is weird to think I really can't take him to the grocery store or drugstore.
Here is Jasper's sweet school picture! He is loving mother's morning out, by the way. It was a rough first two weeks or so but now, he loves it. He has one little friend named Wes. I asked him what Wes likes to play with and he said cars & trucks. That explains the instant friendship! Jasper was in need of a hair cut. I should have supervised the hair cut. Oh well, it will grow back.
Baxter turned 4 months old at the end of September! He is such a sweet fun baby these days. I'm glad we're past the first 3 months as they were a bit rough. Baxter is still inconsistent on when he wakes up at night but overall he is doing great and we are just loving little brother! I took Baxter for his four month well check up and he weighed 21 pounds and was 26.5 inches long. He got one shot and did not even cry! I asked the nurse, "is it because he is so fat?" and the nurse said, "maybe." What? Seriously? HA. The nurse did say the shot Baxter got doesn't have as much sting as some of the others so that may be why also. How funny! The pediatrician did say we just want to watch his weight and hopefully he'll slow down sometime soon. I told her Jasper slowed down around 6-9 months. The only thing to look for would be some kind of metabolic disorder. (I'm not at all concerned about this...the pediatrician just said when his dots on the weight curve reach onto the height curve there could possibly be something wrong...!) I told Darrell's mother about this and she said, "Did you show the pediatrician a picture of Darrell Jr as a baby? There was a metabolic disorder!" ha ha! Yes Darrell was fat. I was no featherweight myself. Anyway, here are Baxter's chunky legs:
And to close, I've joined an organic produce co-op. A local lady started a business this summer where she'll deliver a box of organic produce to your house once a week. Sweet. We joined in September and I love it. I have taken a few pictures because the box of food is just so pretty!
It is all stuff we normally buy in a week anyway! Also there are usually 1-3 odd things meaning things I normally don't buy. But it is making me branch out and figure out how to incorporate unusual items into meals. Butternut squash, acorn squash, swiss chard, red chard...those are some of the unusual ones. Having it delivered is especially great!
