Weekend at Gigi & Granddaddy's

Jasper had a great time with all the grandparents over the 3 day weekend. Photos below show him playing with trucks at Gigi & Granddaddy's and then playing at the mall with Gigi.
We had a great weekend at Jekyll Island!

Computer is Fixed

Finally some fall-like weather, woo hoo! Below are pics from the last few days: my family visited on Sunday; today we went to visit Jennifer & Daniel and meet baby Abigail, and later this afternoon, Mary Catherine & Eli came over.
On another note, our computer is up and working again. After exhausting our computer-fixing-friends options Darrell decided to "call somebody." He quoted us $200-300 so we called another guy who said $150. That made Darrell even more determined to fix it himself although he had been trying for a week. He ended up re-formatting the hard drive so we are starting all over but it seems to be working. I got all our photos and important files off the hard drive before doing this, which I am SO thankful for. We did lose all our music on iTunes which really stinks. I am bummed about the music but hey, we didn't have to pay to have our computer fixed. So for our generous friends out there, if you burned all your CDs to iTunes and then actually kept the CDs (unlike us - for the most part), we'd love to borrow some of those CDs sometime :) Okay, actually I just looked and we do have a lot of our old CDs so I feel better about that. We have not re-loaded all of our programs yet - now I will be beyond bummed if our Microsoft Money backup does not work. Almost 5 years of meticulously kept records of how we have spent our money. Oh I hope that works!!!!

This weekend Darrell is driving the cross country team to Jekyll Island and I get to tag along! He has been the bus driver the past 2 years but this is the first time it has worked out for me to go. I am very excited and thankful to the grandparents for keeping Jasper. I have 2 books from the library that I hope to read (a 9 hr bus trip should help): The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan and Healthy Child, Healthy World by Christopher Gavigan. Of course, I may not get much reading done once we get there because we get to stay in a hotel (duh). Anytime Darrell & I stay in a hotel we just lay around and flip through channels on the television in total awe as the hours fly by. That is a lot of fun to us. But not as much fun as sleeping and reading. Yep, we are easily entertained, rather boring, low-maintenance folks! Bring on the channel surfing!

Yes, I am playing around with our blog links and like the idea of being able to see if a blog is updated before clicking on it, but am not too crazy about how big & long the list looks...i'll play around more later. Ideas?

Jasper is 18 months old

Jasper is 18 months old! That seems like a big milestone to me. He is such a great kid, still a good eater and sleeper! His appetite is finally decreasing a bit and he would rather be playing with his trucks than eating a huge bowlful of yogurt...but we still manage to get him to eat a lot of great healthy food. I took him to the doctor today for his 18 month appt. He weighs 29.5 lbs (90th percentile) and is 35.5 inches tall (>97th percentile). It is amazing to think in the last 9 months he has only gained 6 lbs but grown 5 inches. He is doing great health-wise.
Why is it still so hot outside? I feel a bit stuck indoors though we've made a few trips to the park in the past week plus the library programs began this week. Anyway, our computer has a virus and is not working right now. Agh. I cannot live without internet at home :) I am at my in-laws (they are in Vegas) using their internet and letting Jasper enjoy a different set of toys. So I did manage to still update the blog this week!
We went to Athens on Sunday and enjoyed time at a park that has a free zoo. Pretty cool and it is exactly what you expect for a free zoo. We had a good time and sweated up a storm.
While Jasper did enjoy the animals, he probably enjoyed watching Daddy play with this water hose at the zoo even more.

Once again, sorry for the poor quality - I just figured out that I could set the video part on our camera in a better mode. Anyway, this was cute and wanted to share - it is hard to catch these things on video!

Also, if you notice Darrell's shirt in the video (Beards, they grow on you)...when Darrell points to his shirt and asks Jasper who is this? Jasper replies "daddy."

Really neat

Jasper loves to read. I made it a point to read at least 5 books a day with him every day since he was born. It is so neat to see him reading on his own now. Here he is reading in the car as we drove down to my parents on Friday afternoon!
Mom & Becky enjoy Jasper on the piano
My parents met while working in Yellowstone National Park in 1971. Three other couples met, married, and have reunions every 5 years at the park. The couples from Colorado & California came to GA to visit. My parents also re-connected with another Yellowstone guy who lives in the Atlanta area. He worked at the gas station with my dad and Jerry in 1970 & 71 and Jerry hadn't seen him since 71! It is really neat that they have kept in touch. Below is Randy Smith, Becky & Jerry Palmer, Terry & Carol Barney, Susan & Jordan Shenefield.
Saturday in Gainesville with Aunt Liz, Grandie, and Grandpa. This picture captures how we spent our time - watching Jasper!
Cooking a nice meal!
The front yard we-are-going-to-grow-grass project. Darrell has been working on a plan for the front yard but didn't expect for it to happen so quickly. We have been really blessed with friends to help out with some potentially expensive work. Darrell has taken out lots of trees, Daniel's cousin removed the stumps, and now Josh came over to do the grading. It looks so different without trees and woods but it will be so neat to have a big grassy area for the boys to play! That's the plan.
So that's what is going on with us.

What's been going on with some of our friends....lots of babies! We have a new neighbor - Eli Tritt, born 8/28/08! They don't have pics on their blog yet but I am sure they will very soon!! We think it is really neat for Jasper to have a little playmate next door. Also, my friend Ginger (great, crazy birth story!) had her baby Cash on that same day. I anxiously received text messages and calls throughout the day knowing both Mary Catherine & Ginger were in labor! Jennifer Pope had a baby girl the week before and there have been a few others we've known about who have had babies late August - like Tara who had a 9.5 lb baby and then evacuated for Hurricane Gustav! Congrats on the baby boom!

One last REALLY neat thing is the little retreat our friends Jason & Elizabeth took their daughter Caroline on in order to create some teachable moments for her as she begins kindergarten. This is just so creative, loving, meaningful, and neat.
